BASK LA® Steam Pro Duo FAQ

The Steam Pro Duo is patent-pending.

What makes the Steam Pro Duo different from the Steam Pro?

The Steam Pro Duo is the first device of its kind designed to remove both fingernail and toenail polish! The Steam Pro Duo comes with two interchangeable lid attachments, one for fingers and one for toes. The Steam Pro Duo also features a digital interface that conveniently tracks “steam” time (5-20 minutes) for an even better polish removal experience.

How does the Steam Pro Duo work?

The Steam Pro Duo works by warming acetone, creating “steam” that penetrates and softens polish for fast and easy removal without any damage. Simply select the lid attachment you would like to use for fingernail or toenail polish removal.

How is the Steam Pro Duo different from the soak off method?

With the Steam Pro Duo, fingernails and toenails will never be submerged in acetone. The fingers and toes sit inside the device to allow the “steam” to penetrate the polish.

Does the Steam Pro Duo work with gel, gel-x, dipping powder, acrylic, etc.?

The Steam Pro Duo is compatible with acetone soluble nail systems.

How do I prep my nails before using the Steam Pro Duo?

We recommend using a hand file or electric file to remove the top coat(s) of polish to “break the seal”. Thicker applications of products such as gel, dip powder, gel-x, acrylic, etc. may require additional filing to de-bulk the nails prior to steaming. Thoroughly de-bulking the nails will reduce the steam time and the need for scraping off the remaining polish after steaming.

Does the toe lid attachment accommodate all foot sizes?

The opening of the toe lid attachment fits most foot sizes.

How long does removal take?

Steam time depends on the type of polish being removed and how well the nails are prepped.

Can I use any polish removal liquid with the Steam Pro Duo?

We recommend 100% acetone only for best results.

Will I smell the acetone?

The acetone is contained within the Steam Pro Duo. The silicone lid pieces keep any odor from escaping the device during use.

Can I use the Steam Pro in my salon?

The Steam Pro Duo is recommended for personal use only.

Getting Started:

  1. The Steam Pro Duo requires 100% acetone. Test your skin to make sure you are not sensitive to 100% acetone. You should not initiate use with the Steam Pro Duo if you have an allergic reaction.
  2. Remove the Steam Pro Duo and the power adapter from the box.
  3. Place the Steam Pro Duo on an even, clean surface when in use. Keep the device away from any source of water.
  4. Remove the outer lid and inner lid. Remove the two plastic trays from inside the device. Pour 40-60ml of 100% acetone into one of the clear trays and place it back inside of the device. Never pour acetone directly into the device without the plastic tray in place. Do not allow acetone to come into contact with the digital interface.
  5. Select the finger lid attachment or toe lid attachment and attach it securely to the device, making sure that the notches on the lid and the base are lined up before locking it into place.

How To Use: Fingernail Polish Removal

  1. File off the top layer(s) of polish with the Grit File or Precision E-File to “break the seal”. Thicker applications of products such as gel, dip powder, gel-x, acrylic, etc. may require additional filing to de-bulk the nails prior to steaming. The better prepared the nails, the more efficient the removal process.
  2. Plug the power adapter into an outlet. Turn the device ON by inserting the power cord into the base of the device. Use the power button to switch to the timer display.
  3. Set the desired duration of the “steam” cycle using the +/- buttons on the interface. The cycle duration ranges from 5 to 20 minutes. For individuals sensitive to heat, initiate the process with a short cycle, taking breaks between cycles if necessary.
  4. Keep the outer lid on the device while the device preheats to prevent heat from escaping. The light on the interface will rotate as the device heats and the light display will indicate “H” for Heat. The device will take several minutes to reach the optimal temperature, depending on the amount of acetone used.
  5. The rotating light will stop once the device has heated and the “steam” time will be visible on the interface, initiating the timer. The light display will indicate “S” for Steam. The "H" setting may switch on and off as the device regulates the temperature.
  6. Place your fingers in the finger slots. Fingers should lightly grip the underside of the cap and should not be submerged in the acetone. The “steam” will penetrate the polish in this position.
  7. “Steam” the nails for a minimum of 5-10 minutes and then check the progress. If you do not see your desired results, de-bulk the polish further with the Grit File or remove excess polish with the Essential Nail Tools while the polish is soft and pliable. Repeat “steaming” as needed based on the polish type and its reaction to the “steam”. Various polish types will react differently to “steam” removal.
  8. The device will automatically turn OFF once the cycle is complete. The interface will display “00” and the light display will indicate “F” for Finish. If additional “steaming” is required, set the desired duration of the cycle, allow the device to reheat, and repeat the process.
  9. Remove any remaining polish with the Essential Nail Tools while polish is soft and pliable from “steaming”. Refine your natural nails with the Multi-Step Buffer.
  10. Once the Steam Pro Duo cools completely, properly dispose of the acetone. Remove the silicone piece from the lid, rinse with cool water, and allow the components to air dry. Wipe down the device with a dry cloth before storing. Store the device in its box or in a clean, dry place. Store the cord loosely coiled.

How To Use: Toenail Polish Removal

  5. The rotating light will stop once the device has heated and the “steam” time will be visible on the interface, initiating the timer. The light display will indicate “S” for Steam. The "H" setting may switch on and off as the device regulates the temperature.
  6. Sit comfortably with the Steam Pro Duo set below you on even ground. Place your toes into the foot opening, resting the ball of your foot on the entrance of the lid for proper alignment. Slightly curl your toes downwards, hovering them over the plastic tray. Toes should not be submerged in the acetone. The “steam” will penetrate the polish in this position. To retain optimal heat within the device, ensure that the silicone flaps lie flat if there is space on either side of the foot opening.
  7. “Steam” the nails for a minimum of 5-10 minutes and then check the progress. If you do not see your desired results, de-bulk the polish further with the Grit File or remove excess polish with the Essential Nail Tools while the polish is soft and pliable. Wipe down the device with a dry cloth before storing. Store the device in its box or in a clean, dry place. Store the cord loosely coiled.
Note: Results will vary based on the type and amount of polish being removed. Thorough filing and repeated steaming is recommended for stubborn polish types or heavy applications of polish. The use of 100% acetone is required. The Steam Pro Duo is for personal use only.
